Mahe Bar sits inside the Palais de Mahe, a meticulously restored heritage property in the White Town that ranks among the finest hotels in Pondicherry. The bar is small, calm, and serious about its cocktails in a way that few places in the city are.

The 12 Mile Limit is the signature: a rum, rye, and brandy cocktail that references the outer boundary of French territorial waters, the zone beyond which French jurisdiction ended and beyond which Pondicherry once existed in a complicated relationship with British India. The Connection is another house classic, lighter and more approachable.

Even if you are not staying at the Palais de Mahe, the bar is worth visiting. The setting is one of the most beautiful in the White Town.
